Like last year H&M
presented it's annual design prize for the rising fashion talents.
Twenty-four students were
given the opportunity to come to Stockholm to meet with H&M’s Head of
Design Ann-Sofie Johansson and members of the design team. Ann-Sofie and the
team then decided which eight candidates would proceed to the grand final in
London where the winner was chose.
Minju Kim, a 27 year-old
graduate from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, was selected by the
jury for her collection which transformed characters into outfits. Her
"Dear my friend" collection was inspired by Japanese manga. What
caught the jury attention were the playful and colorful designs of Kim. “These
pieces by Minju Kim show H&M’s commitment to the future of design and to
helping move fashion forward,” says Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s Creative
Head of Design. As part of her overall prize, nine women's pieces and two
accessories have been developed with the H&M design team.
The collection will be
available from October 17 at selected H&M stores.
